Guides
License, rabies vaccine, and the tag
Cities write their own license ordinances on top of state rabies laws. These guides explain how to read an official page, what a license does not cover, and what federal service-animal rules do and do not say about local pet licenses.
Each guide names the official page it relies on and links that page again at the bottom. Read the guide for the plain-English version, then open the source before you act. Dog License by City does not replace the agency, the court, the city clerk, or the event organizer.
When a figure is missing, we left it missing. We do not estimate fees, attendance, dollar caps, or license status. If you have a newer official link, send it through the contact form and we will re-check the page.
Dog licensing is local even when a state statute sets the outline. A city animal-control page, a county treasurer, and a town clerk can each be the office that actually sells the tag. The guides below explain how to tell a rabies vaccine record from a license, what to ask after a move, and what federal service-animal rules do not decide for you. Use them with the city page for your address, not instead of it. If your city is not on this site yet, start with the state guide and the official link there, then send us the city ordinance or animal-control page so we can add it after we read it.
